Poverty alleviation through aquaculture village

November, 30 2021

JAKARTA (8/10) - The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono together with the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Menkop and UKM) Teten Masduki agreed to strengthen synergies to increase the productivity of the Indonesian fishery sector through the development of the role of cooperatives and businesses.

"The goal is how our people prosper," said Minister Trenggono through the KKP's official broadcast. The Minsters   met at the Mina Bahari IV Building, Central Jakarta, Friday (8/10/2021).

One form of synergy in their program is the support of capital loans for business actors in the fisheries sector through a revolving fund program managed by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs.   This program is available for businesses in the field of capture fisheries, cultivation, marketing, to processing fishery products.

Moreover,  KKP (MMAF)  will develop aquaculture villages and  traditional fishing villages as an effort to absorb labor and alleviate poverty in the community.

Support for business capital loans other than Business Service Entity Marine Fisheries Business Capital Management Agency (BLU-LPMUKP) which has been rolled out by KKP, is believed by Minister Trenggono to encourage the development of fishery businesses run by the community.

"There have been many successful examples of cultivator groups that have advanced thanks to the support of capital loans. From what used to be only a few family heads who became members, after being assisted, they became more.

Their income has increased; the group's assets have also increased. Examples are in Semin for catfish aquaculture , and Sambas for shrimp Aquaculture," explained Minister Trenggono.
